The thriving HK restaurant has branched out to open a hot gay lounge which as quickly established itself as one of Hell’s Kitchen most popular gay hangout.
Located in the same building as the restaurant, HK lounge is a sleek, two floor venue, with an outdoor terrace for the summertime. It plays host to many different parties, among them Beto Sutter’s (of Roxy’s fame) “Fridays at HK” and Jonny McGovern’s “Boom Box” on Sundays. The parties feature live performances from the new breed of New York’s gay artists (Adam Joseph, Jason Walker…) as well as nightlife staples (Amanda Lepore, ), appearances from famous gay socialites (Michael Lucas, Michael Musto…), and the occasional go-go dancers and drag queens that make New York’s contemporary gay scene so tasty and colorful.
The crowd is usually young, fun, and thirsty. A slew of horny twinks usually patronizes Jonny Mcgovern’s party, while Shequida or Tommy G’s crew brings out an even more flavorful crowd of sexy papis and ghetto fabulous brothers.
HK lounge exemplifies the new trend for smaller scale venues that has been driving New York’s gay nightlife, blurring the frontiers between bar and dance-clubs, where you can go early to grab a drink in a low key atmosphere, and stay late to get your groove on as the ambiance gets wilder.
