Stereo

555 W 33rd St
New York, NY 10001

Located in a gritty industrial area of west Chelsea, Stereo is a dance club opened by New York house music legend Angel Moraes. Modeled after the original Montreal club of the same name, Stereo New York features an outstanding sound system custom designed by Angel Moraes, which lives up to his goal of providing state-of-the-art cub environments for DJ's and house music lovers. With its large octagonal dance floor and mesmerizing lighting system, Stereo is the perfect setting for an authentic big room clubbing experience. Next to the dance floor are several side rooms and lounge areas. A large circular mezzanine with a bar occupies the 2nd floor, providing a gripping point of view of the downstairs festivities. The third floor is another lounging space, which is perfect to chill and enjoy a quiet moment, away from the hustle and bustle of the party.

Following the demise of the Roxy, Peter Rauhofer teamed up with Angel Moraes to launch a new all gay weekly party to fill the void on the Chelsea club scene. Work at Stereo is the new place for all the Chelsea boys and house heads who found themselves homeless now that Roxy was gone. Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the house music tribe could hear their favorite DJ again, as Peter Rauhofer is now playing twice a month at Stereo, along with a roster of top notch guest DJ's, including Roxy veteran James Andersen, west coast tribal sensation Paulo, Israeli DJ and legend in the making Offer Nissim, and the man himself, Angel Moraes.

In a way, Stereo is a scaled down and refocused version of the Roxy, centered on cutting edge house music, and attracting a loyal and diverse crowd of party boys (with a significant contingent of straight clubbers) and music lovers. With a reasonable cover charge, affordable drink prices and friendly staff, Stereo proves that there is still a place in New York for underground venues dedicated to promoting cutting-edge house music and offering great value to its patrons.
