IndepenDANCE on Fire Island is an annual dance party held at a private house on the bay around the 4th of July weekend. Started in 1983, IndepenDance is one of the longest running events on the Island and also a fundraising for Gay organizations of the New York area.

Each year, the owners of the Reflections house open their homes for an evening extravaganza of music and gorgeous men which truly captures the essence of what Fire Island Pines is all about. True to the great tradition of lavish house parties that have been a staple of Fire Island gay social life since the early 70's, IndepenDANCE features a marquee name DJ headlining the event, free flowing drinks, and a bevy of statuesque dancers dressed in revealing costumes according to the theme of the party. The high production values, the uplifting music and gorgeous backdrop of the sun setting over the shore of Long Island make for an incredible experience of dancing and a beautiful celebration of one of the many facets of the gay lifestyle.

The unique atmosphere that reigns in Fire Island permeates the spirits of the revelers, creating a wonderful vibe of joy and community within the diverse crowd of long time Fire Island residents, high profile guests from all across the country and men and women visiting the Island for the day.

Born in the wake of the eruption of the AIDS epidemic in the early 80's, the party has always been conceived as a way of bringing the Fire Island community together to raise funds for gay organizations fighting the disease. It was a bold initiative to stand up against the ravage this plague had brought to the Island and keep the unique spirit of the Pines alive.

This driving force behind the Independence party has ensured its continued success and relevance, attracting younger and older generations of gays and their friends to celebrate in one of the most beautiful events of the gay circuit.
