Elmo

156 7th Avenue (between 19th and 20th Street)
New York, NY 10014

From its large bar, to its vast dining room and cozy downstairs lounge, Elmo stands out by its very posh décor, with a high ceiling from which hang modern luminaries, and furniture reminiscing of the art-deco style. The atmosphere is quintessential New York, chic and fast-paced, and the clientele is an eclectic mix of Chelsea boys, hipsters and yuppies. The service is always friendly, and some hunky waiters make for some good eye candy while waiting for the food. The bar is great for after work drinks, serving all sorts of cocktails, including the excellent blood orange martini. The food is a bit pricey, but overall Elmo offers good value and is worth the trip, especially during the weekend, for a good immersion in typical Chelsea realness.
