Perry Street
176 Perry St
New York, NY 10014
This elegant restaurant owned by famed restaurateur Jean-Georges actually can make you feel like you are in some exclusive Miami-style, beach front eatery, while you are in fact in the first floor of a residential building fronting New York’s west side highway.
The building is in fact one of the lavish Richard Meier glass towers, whose large window panes offer a pretty view to the Hudson River water front.
Clearly, Perry Street is a league above the usual trendy modernized diners that have been sprawling across town, and positions itself as a classy and rather exclusive establishment patronized by a discerning crowd from New York’s good society.
But in spite of its somehow selective auspice, Perry Street probably offers the best brunch in New York city at an excellent value.
The prix fixe formula offers a choice of two entrees and a dessert from the scrumptious brunch menu for $24.
Even the more mundane breakfast dishes have rarely tasted so good: the pancakes have the perfect fluffiness and come with perfectly crispy strips of bacon. But the menu is full of Jean-Georges original creations, each sounding and indeed tasting more succulent than the next: Crispy Peekytoe Crab Salad, Arctic Char Sashimi, Grilled Hanger Steak herbal spinach and liquid gruyere...
The service is on par with the standards for an establishment of this kind: courteous, attentive, but never obsequious, the staff of waiters makes sure all the needs of the guests are attended to, without ever being intrusive or overzealous.
The only downside is that brunch is only served from 12 PM to 3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, and reservation is more than recommended to avoid getting turned down at the door, and missing on a fabulous brunch opportunity.
