District 36 club in New York

Victor Calderone moves his residency to the new club District 36

District 36 club in New YorkAmateurs of electronic dance music can rejoice: in addition to the arrival of club Sankey’s coming up in Spring 2011, a new venue catering to the house and techno music crowd is set to open on October 9, with none other than the legendary UK jock Sasha headlining the opening party. The club called District 36 is located in a former warehouse on 36th street between 5th and 6th and its musical director is the guy behind the Blkmarket Membership promotion crew which organizes various techno events across the city.

The party line-up promises to feature refined techno sounds and underground DJ’s on Fridays while the Saturday spot will be reserved to big name electronic dance music artists, such as New York veteran Victor Calderone who is moving his massively successful Evolve party from Pacha.

One of the most hyped feature of the new venue is its state of the art sound system, custom built by GSA studio who also did the sound for many high profile night clubs such as London’s Ministry of sound. District 36 is being touted as a music driven venue, which has the potential to bring a significant impact on New York’s underground dance music scene similar to that of legendary defunct spots like Arc or Twilo. It’s worth remembering that Sasha used to be a resident DJ at Twilo, and his return on the opening night of District 36 after a prolonged absence may be a sign of great things to come.

Gay boys will definitely be in attendance when Victor spins there, thanks to his loyal following that dates back from his early days spinning at The Roxy. It remains to be seen whether the venue will remain true to his initial credo, and not go the way of M2 or Amnesia who quickly sold out to the highly profitable bottle service crowd.
